ETC European Theatre Convention presents Young Europe
2013/01/17
The European Theatre Convention together with the Theater an der Parkaue in Berlin present the 5th premiere of the project Young Europe 2 on January 23 at 19:00 at the Theater an der Parkaue.

Together with the Helsinki City Theatre, the Theater an der Parkaue have gathered 8 young people from Berlin and Helsinki to write a common play using an online collaborative writing tool developed by Helsinki City Theater and Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences named Noodi. The play was written in English, and then translated into Finnish and German to be finally staged by artistic casts from both countries.

The Finnish version premiered in November 2012 and next Wednesday, the Theater an der Parkaue will unveil its work. Infos and bookings.
The plot

What has a butterfly in common with the coast of England, being in love or the weather? Where does the Chaos come from ? Are we guided from the outside? Or is our head in a muddle? Do you believe in coincidental encounters?

A retired person, a monkey and a statistician in love are waiting on a bus stop. They don’t know each other.  As the bus is late, they start an unexpected conversation. The bus is still late. Will the bus ever arrive? Is this really a bus stop? The bus is not coming.

In this everyday-situation, what is normal becomes absurb and visible. A normal situation is only created by people's mind and it is nothing but an utopia. And this very utopia is slowly but surely exasperating the judge of the universe’.

Note for editors

Founded in 1988, the European Theatre Convention is the leading pan-European network of public theatres in more than 20 countries whose aims are to promote contemporary European drama and theatre creation, artistic education and linguistic diversity in theatre. Central to ETC’s work is the support and international promotion of young European theatre talents, the mobility of artists through exchange programs, the creation of a platform for theatre education and drama schools as well as the initiation of new audience development strategies. The ETC is also a professional platform for theatre makers that encourages intercultural dialogue, organizes meetings, invests in education and training opportunities and initiates research and publications. As member of the European civil society platforms “Access to Culture”, “Creative and Cultural Industries” and consortium partner of Poliglotti4.eu, the ETC established a structured dialogue within the cultural sector and the European commission and presents pragmatic proposals that correspond to the theatrical reality in Europe today.
