Manfred Beilharz opens the festival INTERNATIONALE MAIFESTSPIELE on 27^th of April with his production of Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny by Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht with musical direction by Zsolt Hamar.

From 13th to 16th May, the Young Europe Festival presents all productions which were developed in the framework of “Young Europe 2: Multilingual Creation and Education”.

Manfred Beilharz, founder of the Theatre Biennale NEW PLAYS FROM EUROPE (together with Tankred Dorst and Ursula Ehler) at Staatstheater Wiesbaden, announces his new team of Artistic Directors for the next edition of the festival: Ann-Marie Arioli, festival dramaturge and currently working at the Theatre Chur (Switzerland), the Frankfurt writer and journalist Peter Michalzik and Manfred Beilharz are the Artistic directors of the next edition of NEW PLAYS FROM EUROPE.

Tankred Dorst and Ursula Ehler remain connected to the festival.

The theatre biennale NEW PLAYS FROM EUROPE takes place between 19^th – 29^th June 2014 at the Staatstheater Wiesbaden.

From 27 April to 31 May, the 117th edition of the Internationale Maifestspiele (International May Festival), under the artistic direction of Dr. Manfred Beilharz, will transform the city of Wiesbaden into a stage showcasing international theatre treasures. Theatre fans in Wiesbaden can experience 35 festival days featuring 36 productions from 15 countries and 8 German premieres throughout the month of May. Directors, singers, dancers and actors of international standing are set to perform in several Staatstheater venues. Thus, star tenor Klaus Florian Vogt is assuming the title role of the operatic gala Lohengrin as a part of the Wagner Year, and renowned countertenor Max Emanuel Cencic is starring in Händel’s Alessandro in a production by Parnassus Arts Productions from Greece. The dance program features five works of choreography celebrating their German premieres, including Les Balletts de Monte-Carlo with Le Songe (The Dream) by Jean-Christophe Maillot and Compagnie Käfig with Yo Gee Ti, a dance production by Mourad Merzouki. With actors such as August Diehl in Burgtheater Vienna’s production of Kleist’s The Prince of Homburg, Ulrich Matthes in Oedipus’ City from Deutsches Theater Berlin and Michael Maertens in Molière’s The Misanthrope from Schauspielhaus Zürich, a variety of exceptional performers have been invited to the Wiesbaden stage as well. This year’s Maifestspiele will kick off with the festive opening production Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny by Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht staged by Manfred Beilharz with musical direction by Zsolt Hamar.

Roman Polák was named a new director of Drama starting January 1. 2013. This move was announced while ago by the General director of Slovak National Theatre Mr. Marián Chudovský. He is replacing Mr. Emil Horváth, a director and actor, who held this position since May 2011.

ETC’s flagship project, Young Europe 2: Multilingual Creation and Education in Theatre was presented as a model of best practice at a major conference organised by the European Commission in Brussels earlier this month and entitled ‘Culture in Motion: European Audiences 2020 and Beyond’. The project was also part of the conference's main exhibition while President of the ETC, Dubravka Vrgoč, gave a presentation on  Young Europe 2 in a panel titled "Hosting the audience: Cultural institutions under the microscope".

The European Theatre Convention welcomes the Commission’s proposal for a new EU Culture Programme ‘Creative Europe’, the only EU instrument dedicated to the cultural and creative sectors and asks EU Member States and the European Parliament to support the proposed overall budget for Creative Europe.

The conference will take place from May 22^nd to May 24^th 2012 at the National Theatre of Miskolc in Hungary and will open a space for debates between experts of artistic education and theatre partners.

On May 11th at Teatro Due in Parma Balletto Civile in collaboration with Fondazione Teatro Due will present a preliminary study of WOYZECK by Georg Buechner, the first step of the project Corpo a Corpo.

The drama "Inga und Lutz. Oder: Die potentielle Holistik eines Schnellkochtopfs im Kosmos des modernen Seins" is invited to the festival Heidelberger Stückemarkt and will be performed Friday, 6th of May in the zwinger 3.

The playwrite "Lebensansichten zweier Hunde" by the chinese author Meng Jinghui will be shown as guest performance at the z/k/m theatre in Zagreb/Croatia on Wednesday, 27th of April.

From the 3rd to 5th of March, the Théâtre de la Place in Liège (Belgium) will hold the festival "Corps de texte Europe" dedicated to new playwrighting in Europe.  

The European wide campaign led by Culture Action Europe 'We are more' has been launched in October 2010. It seeks to mobilise everyone who cares about culture, calling on decision-makers to strengthen the recognition of the role of arts and culture in the development of our societies, by explicitly supporting culture in the upcoming negotiations on the next EU budget.

For the first time ever, six actors from different European countries will be joining the Comédie de Saint Etienne in France to work on a permanent basis during the entire season 2010-2011 together with the French actors.

Ghetto, a play by Joshua Sobol describing daily life in the Vilna Ghetto and the theatre company created there under impossible conditions, premiered at the Cameri Theatre on March 8, directed by Omri Nitzan. For Noam Semel, Director of the Cameri, the play has come full circle - it was first produced at the Haifa Theatre in 1984, when Semel was its director.

Jean-Claude Berutti, artistic director of the Comédie de Saint Etienne, France has been re-elected president during the General Assembly held in Poznan, Poland. Together with its new Board of Directors, comprised of well-known representatives of eight national theatres of five European countries, Berutti will be leading the ETC until 2011 with the objective to strengthen the network on a political level, to intensify the relations with the future theatre audience and to encourage the intercultural dialogue between theatre professionals through outstanding common artistic projects.

October 23-24th, 10-18h, White Hall, Poznan / Poland Over 50 theatre professionals from more than 20 countries will gather for 2 days to discuss the future of the ETC.
