Young Directors Forum 2012
SUCCESS OF FIRST ETC YOUNG DIRECTOR’S FORUM IN NEW YORK
December 2012 - The European Theatre Convention (ETC) held it’s first ever Young Director’s Forum in La MaMa, New York, this week, to great success. The two-day series of talks, workshops and panel discussions, which was very well attended by New York theatre students and artists, involved promising young European directors Bojan Djordjev (Serbia/Croatia), Paul Knieriem (The Netherlands), Bastian Kraft (Germany), Ana Tomovic (Serbia) and well-known U.S. based directors Anne Bogart, Meiyin Wang, John Jesurun and Charlotte Braithwaite. Spearheaded by the ETC in partnership with La MaMa it was one of the rare opportunities for professional theatre directors from Europe and the US to meet and share practices.
The discussions and workshops accompanied two productions in La MaMa’s Ellen Stewart Theater. These productions were THE DOLL SHIP, from the Serbian National Theatre, which ran from 29 November until 2 December, and A LETTER TO HEINER MÜLLER from the Zagreb Youth Theatre, which continues until 9 December 2012.
Director of the Zagreb Youth Theatre and President of the ETC, Ms. Dubravka Vrgoč said, “The ETC places an important emphasis on supporting the work, mobility and critical development of young European theatre practitioners. In this first Young Director’s Forum in New York we are not only providing a space within one of the world’s capitals of theatre for these young talented artists to share their visions, their world viewpoints and their practices with others, but we are exposing them to the ideas and influences of some of the greatest contemporary theatre-makers based in New York today.”
The European Young Director's Forum is a collaboration between La MaMa and European Theatre Convention with support from The Trust For Mutual Understanding and the European Commission.
