Selection Results 2010

Out of 15 submitted applications, the ETC board has selected the following performances to be presented at the “New Plays in Europe” Theaterbiennale Wiesbaden from June 17 -27 within the ETC performance exchange programme 2010:

“A boat for dolls” by Milena Markovic / Serbian National Theatre Novi Sad
“Allegretto Albania” by Stefan Capaliku / Teatri Kombëtar National Theatre Tirana
“Zagrebacki Pentagram” by Sovagovic, Rajki, Mitrovic, Karakas, Vidic/ ZKM Zagreb
“Tha se Parei o Dromos” by Sakis Serefas/ Amalia Theatre Thessaloniki

The board had to decide of how to spend the available budget in an effective way in order to contribute to the performance exchange in relation to the objectives by the ETC.
These are: supporting contemporary playwrighting and new drama development, exchanging plays between different cultures and different languages.

After an in-depth discussion, the following criteria have been agreed upon to support 2010 performance exchanges that fullfil these conditions:
- new plays representing the contemporary theatre development of the country reflected in new drama texts
- presented in  a country with another language
- in a different culture
For the last 2 criteria, the notion of distance and language difference for the exchange appears as an important issue in order to reach out to and connect cultures of countries that are geographically and linguistically afar form each other and not close neighbours.

Given these criteria, the board members have prioritised and selected in 2010 the plays of the ETC member theatres which have been invited and will be represented at the “New Plays in Europe” festival in Wiesbaden from June 17 to 27 to be supported as part of the performance exchange programme. These plays fulfil all the stated criteria best and allow in addition to represent the ETC and its goals on a very visible and renowned platform.
