Conception Workshop

7-10 February 2018

Venue: Staatsschauspiel Dresden – Kleines Haus, Dresden, Germany

Project outline

Our Stage introduces the idea of the citizen theatre run as a professional in-house production company, as an artistic business model and new form for creative community outreach via artistic collaboration to the wider sector. Although there are already several forms of participatory theatre established in many theatre houses around Europe, Our Stage aims at bringing everyone to the same table: those with and those without experience in the “Bürgerbühne” concept or other formats of community theatre forms.

It is hard for a theatre to understand the sociology of a city and to be its mirror, finding out how to best put that into practice is one he goals of the Conception Workshop in Dresden. Another goal is to carry out the message that life and theatre belong to the spectators, to the people. There is also a desire to transform the theatre in a real public space, and to let open it as much as possible. The idea of this Conception Workshop is to share existing good practice examples of participatory theatre, and get inspired to set up new forms and concrete new joint work in season 2018/2019.
