WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 19

Solidarity actions were held in London, New York, Stockholm. The campaign of solidarity with Belarus has been supported by such theaters as London Young Vic and the Almeida, the New York Public Theatre, Chicago Goodman Theatre. In solidarity actions have been involved more than two hundred theaters from Europe and the U.S., including such figures as Tom Stoppard, Kevin Spacey, Tony Kushner, Oskar Eustis, Jude Law, George Clooney, Ed Harris, Michael Attenborough and many others. We are all waiting for the moment when we start rehearsals again, and to see how our new piece is created and how the public responds. But today we understand that it's not enough to be just theatre-makers. And it's important to refer, every day of our lives, to what our patron and friend Harold Pinter said in his Nobel speech: "A writer has to smash the mirror – for it is on the other side of that mirror that the truth stares at us … Despite the enormous odds which exist, unflinching, unswerving, fierce intellectual determination, as citizens, to define the real truth of our lives and our societies is a crucial obligation which devolves upon us all. It is in fact mandatory. If such a determination is not embodied in our political vision, we have no hope of restoring what is so nearly lost to us – the dignity of man".

FRIDAY NOVEMBER 06

3 staff members of the Deutsches Theater, Berlin would like to be invited by another ETC member theatre in 2010 for a staff exchange: 1 press & communication/ internet officer, 1 graphic designer and 1 apprentice of make up, mask and wig department.
